Holidays…… What they’re really like!

It seems too long since I wrote, one month seems to roll into another. My ausome girl starts secondary in two days.

The last few holidays we’ve taken easier, picked battles and often being home more than out. I no longer get upset at friends posts showing their amazing holiday snaps and what they’ve done. We do what works for us and we’re happy.

You’d think that with more time at home, I’d of done the sorting and tidying that I keep putting off. Nope! Played games with kids, baked, taught D how to play solitaire, B immersed herself in her old baby clothes that now fit “Bella” her toddler doll and Miraculous lady bug.

Bella (aka “Chucky” 😉) has accompanied us pretty much everywhere these holidays. But the difference in B has been obvious. When shopping she focuses on pushing Bella in the trolley using it to drown out sensory triggers surrounding her.

None of our holidays would be the same without Horses somewhere in it. Between equine therapy, miniature ponies, meeting unicorns and dragons (yes, D did point out “it’s a dinosaur, not a dragon!”). B wants horses for Birthday again, so it’ll be back to local stables for party fun in a few weeks.

We managed a few days in Cardiff, visited Caerphilly Castle and Caerleon Roman Fortress; where D had great fun trying out the archery.

Some of the hardest times these holidays have been B’s inability to sleep before midnight, meaning she’s not been waking before 11am, making full days out virtually impossible. With D awake at 05:30 most mornings, sleep has been fairly elusive for me. 💤 💤

Surprisingly D has been the hardest work these holidays. Riding his emotional rollercoaster, that turns with no warning, flitting between angry and sobs. Usually because he’s hungry, he’s always hungry and doesn’t seem to have any off switch, his Interoception sense really under responsive. His sensory needs all over the place. He loves the huge beanbag for his proprioceptive seeking needs.

Being an autistic autism mum is my superpower”

A quote I found myself with earlier this week having responded to one of those, push the middle button down posts.

“My autism is autistic!”
